On Tuesday, May 21, 2019, People’s Resource Center (PRC) supporters Drs. Carl and Patricia Greer from the Greer Foundation, Dr. Keith Suchy and 11 volunteers were acknowledged at the West Suburban Philanthropic Network (WSPN) 17th Annual Philanthropy Awards. The luncheon recognizes the dedicated philanthropy and volunteerism work of organizations, businesses and individuals from the western suburbs.
The Greer Foundation, chosen as the Philanthropic Foundation of the Year, is committed to supporting programs that address the root causes of violence, poverty and social injustice and has had a substantial impact on helping individuals and families break the cycle of poverty. With support from the Greer Foundation, some of the most vulnerable children in DuPage County participate in PRC’s annual Summer Science Program. The two-week classes prepare students for the upcoming school year and inspire a life-long interest in and fascination with science. Due to the Greer Foundation’s generosity, over 470 children enrolled in this free program last summer.
PRC supporter and former Board President, Keith Suchy, D.D.S was awarded the Nonprofit Volunteer of the Year award. During the twenty-two years Dr. Suchy was on the PRC Board, he was instrumental in starting the Dental Clinic, which served low-income residents. When the clinic closed, he founded the Chicago Dental Society Foundation Dental Clinic, which is in operation today. The clinic has provided over $2.8 million in free dental care to families who otherwise could not afford the service.
PRC also nominated 11 volunteers who were recognized for their many contributions, including: Roy Clavey, Pam and John Dalby, Merikay Huszagh, Angie Hyssong, Cathy Kuczynski, Mary Landreth, Carol Leben, Vimala Menon, Janet Ostermeier and Thomas Phistry. Over 2,600 individuals volunteered 95,572 hours at PRC last year.
